The Java Embedding Plugin is a utility that allows other web browsers than Apple's Safari to use the most recent versions of Java on Mac OS X. When used together with an updated version of Mozilla's MRJ Plugin Carbon (included in this distribution), the Java Embedding Plugin's functionality is available to current releases of Firefox, Seamonkey. Java may be on some Lion systems: Users are prompted to install the software the first time they try to run a Java applet. Because Apple no longer supports OS X 10.5, or Leopard, its predecessor. Download latest Firefox ESR for Mac. Download latest Firefox for All systems and languages. Download Firefox ESR Portable. Firefox Beta download links. Firefox Beta is for public testing. Some newer features may not work as expected but overall it’s quite stable. It can be used for testing new features. The Java Embedding Plugin has for the last few years been bundled with current Mac distributions of all the Mozilla.org browsers - Firefox, Seamonkey and Camino. So if you're using one of these browsers, you don't need to install the Java Embedding Plugin.

Choose a supported browser
- Macintosh:
- Skillsoft officially supports Safari only.
- IS&T has found good results for Firefox 17.0 ESR or Firefox 24 ESR. http://ist.mit.edu/firefox
- Google Chrome is not supported due to the fact that the Java plugin is 64-bit and Google Chrome is 32-bit.
- Windows:
- Skillsoft supports Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome
Test your certificate
- In the browser you will be using to access Skillsoft, test your certificate
NOTE: Certificates must be installed for each web browser and on each computer.- Navigate to http://web.mit.edu/certificates/test/
- Click 'Test my certificate'
- Verify that you see your own name displayed.
Check your Java version
- Note that if Java is not installed, or an older Java version is being blocked by your browser or operating system, the page may not display properly.

But in principle any web browser coulduse one of the Java Embedding Plugin's two APIs to add support forJava 1.4.2, J2SE 5.0 and (where available) Java SE 6.
The current version (0.9.7.5) of the Java Embedding Plugin and theMRJ Plugin JEP requires Mac OS X 10.4.X or higher. Older versions(0.9.6.5 and earlier) required Mac OS X 10.2.8 or higher.
The Java Embedding Plugin has for the last few years been bundledwith current Mac distributions of all the Mozilla.org browsers --Firefox, Seamonkey and Camino. So if you're using one of thesebrowsers, you don't need to install the Java Embedding Plugin. Butyou may wish to replace the bundled version of the Java EmbeddingPlugin with a more recent version.
